One Question Not To Ask

One great thing about working for myself is that I can take extended lunch breaks. Or as I like to say, having lunch with my favorite actor or movie.

Recently I was hanging out with my favorite scruffy looking nerf herder. The one and only Han Solo. While I do have a life size cut out of him (from my wedding reception), I was watching him on the small screen in The Force Awakens.

Is that even possible?

I couldn’t help but smile when Han and Rey were getting ready to take the Falcon out of the cargo bay at lightspeed.

[Tweet “I never ask that question ’till after I’ve done it.~Han Solo”]

Rey asks the one question not to ask; “Is that even possible?”

In typically Han fashion, he quips “I never ask that question ’till after I’ve done it.”

At times I wish I was more like Han. His confidence, or faith, is through the roof. Some might call it arrogance.

For me I often hear about others doing something and think that I couldn’t do that… I’m too ___[fill in the blank]___.

Areas Of Struggle

I’m often like that in my faith, my business (ESGgraphics.com), and my writing.

Faith

I wish I could walk on water or preach boldly in front of 1000s. Often I’m like Paul:

For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
Romans 7:15-20 (ESV)

I think that’s why Scripture shows us the normal lives of the people that God used. So we can relate.

Remember, God used Noah (a drunk), Abraham (too old), Joseph (abused and imprisoned), Moses (murderer), Peter (who denied Christ), and many more.

Business

I listen to a number of podcasts and read blogs that promote how you can create a 6 or 7 figure business. I haven’t arrived there yet and wonder if I truly can.

I won’t be able to do until I truly believe. Part of believing is see others doing it.

Writing & Blogging

Often I see people like Jeff Goins, Michael Hyatt, Andy Traub, Dan Miller, Ray Edwards, among others.

The problem is, I struggle with comparing my beginning with their middle or end.

They’ve been doing things online for years and years. They have tens of thousands, if not more, monthly readers and people on their email lists.

The Solution

The solution to asking “Is that even possible” is not to ask the question.

But, if you are like me and have already asked the question, we need to answer it, or else we can’t move forward.

Can I have faith to move mountains? YES! I need to cry out “I believe; help my unbelief!” and “seek first the kingdom of God.

Can I have booming business? YES! I need to provide value to my clients and earn more of their “certificates of appreciation” as Rabbi Daniel Lapin calls money.

Can I become a paid writer and blogger? YES!

Recently I watched a video from Jeff Goins and Sandy Kreps.

In the series, I saw how Sandy started about 3 years before I did blogging and writing. I could relate to her story since Sandy and I have a similar story.

Not long ago, Sandy was laid off from her job as an art director. She started writing again. Since her family had relied on her work to pay the bills, she needed to figure out a way to make money writing. Which is exactly what Sandy did.

Sandy is a mom. Sandy is a wife. And Sandy is also now a blogger, speaker, and author. What she did, you and I can do.

Watch her inspiring story of action here. HURRY, it’s only available until October 23, 2016.

I realized an important truth from watch the video series. The truth is it’s not too late to become a professional blogger or writer.

Next Steps

To strengthen my faith, I plan to read Scripture daily and set aside purposeful time to be with God.

To improve my business, I plan on providing more value to more people. I will reach out to at least one new prospect per week.To improve my writing and blogging, I plan on taking Jeff Goins’ Tribe Writers course again and implement what is taught.

What’s your next step?
