Is This How Liberty Ends?

In a few days, the majority of people that are going to vote in the 2016 election will cast there vote. Are you one of them? I will be.

I know many people that have decided to cast their vote early, taking advantage of early voting laws.

I couldn’t. Not that I was prevented from doing so by time or schedule, but out of a sense of distaste. I can’t stomach either of the candidates from the major parties.

The End of Liberty

[Tweet “So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause ~Padme”]

We are facing a very divisive election, more so than in the past. I’ve lived through 8 presidential election cycles that I can actually remember. Since 1984, the lack of civility between the parties and their supports has increased.

I’m convinced that each party believes themselves to be good and moral. That they are like Bail Organa or Padme.

They fear that if the other party’s candidate were to win, we’d have a situation like in Revenge of the Sith, where after the Emperor’s encounter with Master Windu, he comes before the Senate and proclaims “In order to ensure our security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secure society which I assure you will last for ten thousand years.”

Liberty will not end. It may be suppressed for a while. But it will resurface.

Liberty Will Rise

When the next president is declared and takes office, there will be major changes that take place in America. Some will be good, others will not.

The good news is that liberty will rise again.

As Jyn Erso declares in Rogue One, “We have hope. Rebellions are built on hope!”

Our enemy is not the political party we don’t agree with or those that support it.

Our enemy is the Evil One and Sin. Our hope is not in man. Our Hope is Christ.

Becoming Free

Paul tells us in Galatians 5:1 “For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”

The slavery that Paul speaks of is not the oppression that governments or people exercise over an individual. The slavery is of sin.

But we become a disciple of Christ, when we put our hope and our trust in Him, we will be free.

We are promised in John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Make The Best Choice

While the results of this election will influence the direction of this country (and the world) for decades, there is another more important choice to make.

This choice is not about who will govern our country, but who will govern your heart.

The choice we all need to make, each day, is who will we obey. Will you obey God? Will you accept His Son as your Lord and Savior?

No matter who is president, Jesus will always be Lord. He will always be the King of Kings.

Eventually, “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth” (Philippians 2:10).

Make sure you decide today, while you still have breathe in your nostrils. Once you pass from this world to the next, it will be to late.

When you make that decision, you will have life- and life more abundantly.
