For most of us, it is a no-brainer to love Star Wars.
We can talk about the movies for sun up to sun down.
Why do I love Star Wars? For me, it’s very simple.
These three reasons could easily be broken down into smaller sub-reasons, but to me, they stand on their own.
#1 Quotability
There are so many great quotes from the movies that you can use in every day life without forcing the issue. See the pun there.
There are scores of quotes that fit into your daily situation, whether you are a fan of the original trilogy, the prequel, and/or The Force Awakens.
While I will make the case that the original trilogy has the best quotes, I will admit that I’ve seen those 3 scores of times and the prequels about 10 times each. Once The Force Awakens comes out on DVD in April, I will add to the two times I saw it in the theater.
#2 Memes
Since the movies are so awesome and quotable, the internet is full of memes that use Star Wars. A Google search shows more that 2.5 Million pages dedicated to “Star Wars Memes“
Since 2016 is the year of the US Presidential race, memes like these are popping up all over the place.
Even people like my wife, who sadly has never watched a Star Wars movie, can get a laugh out of these memes because they understand Star Wars.
We take Leia’s famous “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope” and can easily make Obi-Wan a candidate.
Most people can see that Obi-Wan is good and Vader is evil. I have yet to find some one that actually liked Jar Jar.
There are also mashups like this one from The Princess Bride that show the addition of light saber effects make a great scene even better.
#3 Life Lessons
The final reason I love Star Wars is because there are so many life lessons that can be drawn from the movies.
I’ve written Bible studies based on the how the movies can easily be used to share your faith.
There is nothing more important in life than your eternal soul. Star Wars can help us learn how to because saved.

I wholeheartedly agree. Being a programmer by trade, science fiction forms a large pillar of my leisure pursuits quite naturally.
I would like to add, once in an interview, George Lucas was asked, why did you come up with Star Wars and what was your motivation? His answer was prophetic, “I wanted to provide kids a moral framework who did not have the opportunity to go to Sunday School.” Several decades later, that quote has proven right. Even though American society has become increasingly secular, godless, and wicked, Star Wars stands as a cultural icon that almost anyone knows as an easy reference for good vs. evil. May the Lord of the Force be with you, always.
Thanks Nate.
I agree that our society is “increasingly secular, godless, and wicked.” My hope is that we can use common stories to share the Gospel with people since our society is becoming more and more Biblically illiterate.
