3 Spiritual Lessons We Can Learn From Obi-Wan Kenobi

Whether or not you first knew him as Ben Kenobi or Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan was an interesting man with some good quotes and some troubling beliefs, “from a certain point of view”.

The last time we see Obi-Wan on the big screen in Return of the Jedi right after Luke leaves Yoda’s hut.

Yoda has confirmed that Darth Vader is Luke’s father and that Luke needs to face him again and defeat him.

Luke is struggling to process all that he has learned and shortly after this conversation with Yoda, he meets up with Obi-Wan.

We can pull at least three spiritual lessons from the conversation between Luke and Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan Quotes That Can To Spiritual Conversations

Ben: Yoda will always be with you.

The only One that will be with us always, that is Jesus. He promised that in Matthew 28:20b, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Ben: So what I have told you was true… from a certain point of view.

In Leviticus 19:11 we are told: “You shall not steal; you shall not deal falsely; you shall not lie to one another.”

So we shouldn’t be like Ben who, at least skewed the truth, thus he dealt falsely with Luke. But in reality, he lied to Luke.

If we get a reputation for being shady with the facts, that can lead us to “swear I’m telling the truth. Jesus deals with that oath making in Matthew 5:37 when He says: “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.”

Ben: Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.

While our point of view can color our beliefs, the truth is the truth.

For those that say “what Jesus says is true for you, but not for me” are being intellectually dishonest. If Jesus is telling the truth, He is Lord. If He is lying, He cannot be Lord and would, therefore, be a lying lunatic for claiming He was God.

This post is a modified version of a devotional from my upcoming devotional book.

As millions of kids, teens, and young adults face a world that is rapidly removing any trace of Judeo-Christian values from the culture, there is still hope to reach them.

The Gospel is for all people and throughout all time.

You can help the next generation learn about the Gospel by using Star Wars.

There are valuable lessons that can be learned from Star Wars. My devotional book looks at the live-action Star Wars movies (Episodes I to IX, Rogue One, and Solo) and pull out different lessons and take-a-ways.

If you wish to join me in using Star Wars to share the faith, please consider purchasing the daily devotion I am published in November 2019.

“Many of the truths we cling to depend on our point of view.” You should put down your Bible, and learn truth from JC himself. It is a fact the Bible was edited for the benefit of those in power. Obi-wan quotes are not comparible to Bible verses, because JC did not mean what you were told he said. “You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Matt, if we put the Bible down and learn truth from Jesus Christ Himself, how do we do that? From my study of history, the New Testament was put together based on a consensus of what was and was not a reliable testimony of Jesus. While I agree that certain translations have issues with them not being as faithful to the original languages, would you mind explaining how “It is a fact the Bible was edited for the benefit of those in power.” How are you so certain of this “fact”?
