After finding Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen dead, Luke returns to Obi-Wan and tells him “I want to come with you to Alderaan. There’s nothing here for me now. I want to learn the ways of the Force and become a Jedi like my father.”
Since Luke no longer had ties to Tatooine and he was willing to leave the planet behind and move on.
In today’s world, people need to come to the realization that they are missing something. That there is “nothing here for me now” that is worthwhile.
They need to be told about forgiveness and faith in God.
To receive forgiveness they need to become a follower of Jesus, through faith.
Ephesians 2:8 tells us “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”.
As the old saying goes, “God has no grandchildren, only children.”
Each new generation needs to be taught the ways of God.
The most quoted verse is not John 3:16 but Deuteronomy 6:4-6.
“The Shema” is taken from the first words of Deuteronomy 6:4 (listen in Hebrew is Shema) and combined with Deuteronomy 11:13-21 and Numbers 15:37-41 and is recited every morning and evening by traditional Jews.
Like Paul tells Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:5, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” (Emphasis added)
It does not matter what a grandparent or parent believes, the individual needs to believe. No one can not get into heaven on the coattails of others.
How do we pass on our faith to the next generation?
We read in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Jesus commands us in Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
Sharing our faith and Scripture should be a natural part of life.
How To Help People Reject The World and Embrace Jesus
While we can’t convince a person, that is the job of the Holy Spirit. We can assist the Spirit.
Below are 5 ways we can help
- Simply ask a friend to go to a church service with you.
- Ask them what they think happens when we die.
- Share a “God sighting” in your life. That is to say, share with them how God did something in your life.
- Buy them a copy of The Christian Jedi: A Daily Devotion*
- Actually share the Gospel message with the person.
