Inside Babu’s shop, Zorii tells everyone that Babu has found the Sith translation inside C3P0’s memory banks.
To make C3P0 translate it, it will cause a complete memory wipe.
Rey says to C3P0, “You know the odds better than any of us. Do we have a choice?”
After a long pause, C3PO stands, walks across the room, and replies, “If this mission fails. It was all for nothing. All we’ve done; all this time.”
Poe looks at the silent droid and asks, “What are you doing there, 3PO?” To which C3P0 replies, “Taking one last look, sir, at my friends.”
A short time later, the memory wipe is complete, and they have the translation, including the coordinates.
C3P0 knew the sacrifice he was making was needed to save his friends and the galaxy from evil. In his own way, C3P0 was living out John 15:13.
Jesus told His disciples in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
Throughout history, people have made the ultimate sacrifice to save others.
Nearly every country in the world has a day of remembrance for those that have died in service to their country.
As followers of Jesus, we know the ultimate sacrifice was made at a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull). See Matthew 27:33. The place where Jesus was crucified on a Roman cross for the sins of the world.
C3P0 willingly allowed his memory to be wiped, thus “Killing” who he was.
We read five times in John 10:11-18 that Jesus willingly gave Himself up for the salvation of each and every sinner.
What sacrifice are we willing to make in the service of our Lord?
Would we give up our comfort to be a witness for Jesus?
This could be as simple as giving up your chair to someone else.
Giving our lives is the ultimate sacrifice.
Today, let us offer something.
