After the death of the Emperor in ROTJ, Vader asks Luke to take off his mask. Luke is afraid that Vader will die.
Vader replies, "Nothing can stop that now. Just for once…let me look on you with my own eyes."
No longer Vader, Anakin tells his son to leave him, but Luke says to his father that he will not; and that "I’ve got to save you."
Anakin tells Luke that he already has.
This scene ends the Star Wars universe’s focus on the Skywalker family.
With the release of the Prequels, we saw the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin.
Scripture shows the creation of Man, his fall, and then follows the bloodline of one family, that of Abraham. From his calling in Genesis 12 to his name change in Genesis 17:5, the rest of the Old Testament follows his lineage.
Throughout this time, we see the good, bad, and the ugly that is committed by man and by Abraham’s lineage.
Just as Anakin was redeemed by his son, Abraham’s family, the Israelites are redeemed through a son, God’s Son— Jesus. Read Matthew 1:1-16 to trace Jesus’ lineage back to Abraham.
1 Peter 2:9-10 tells us "But you [believers in Jesus] are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy."
We can now look at God with our own eyes because of Jesus.
