In ROTJ, Luke surrendered to the Empire and was brought to Darth Vader. We know from his conversation with Leia before leaving that Luke was going to try and redeem Vader, his father.
From the moment Luke steps off the elevator and is alone with Darth Vader, he begins his attempt to redeem Vader.
Luke calls Vader âfather,â and Vader seems happy that Luke has accepted that truth. Luke then reasons with him that there is still good in him.
The debate as to whether or not a person is either inherently good or inherently evil has raged for centuries.
Suffice it to say; we are bound to encounter people who believe one side or the other. We are not referring to moral goodness or depravity here. We are talking about value.
We need to reach out to all people with the message of salvation.
There is still time to repent.
While there is still have breath in a person, there is still time. No person is so depraved that we should not try to witness and share the gospel with them. We are all beings created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).
God sent Jesus to die for us. Jesusâ death âis the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole worldâ according to 1 John 2:2.
Are we hopeful that others will receive the Holy Spirit and accept Christ?
Romans 10:14 asks, âHow then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
Seeing people as having value should get us to act.
Luke put himself in harmâs way to try and redeem his father.
Why?
He loved his father and thought there was still good in him and that he could ârepentâ and be saved.
