Director Krennic was summoned to Mustafar so that Darth Vader could impress upon him that the Director needs to make sure that Galleon Erso had not compromised the Death Star.
Krennic then quizzically asks, “So I’m still in command? You’ll speak to the Emperor about…” Suddenly, he is unable to breathe and drops to the floor.
Darth Vader turns around, and we can see that Vader has him in a Force choke. Vader then tells him, “Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director.”
Krennic eventually pays for his pride and arrogance with his life when Tarkin destroys the Imperial base on Scarif.
Krennic’s pride and arrogance is reminiscent of the story of Lucifer’s fall is described in Ezekiel 28:11-19 and Isaiah 14:12-17.
Satan’s fall ultimately will lead to his destruction.
Revelation 20:10 promises that “the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”
The problem with pride is that it leaves no room for repentance. To have true repentance, we need to admit that the way we are thinking and living is wrong, and we need to make a complete 180-degree turn.
From the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, as we see Matthew 4:17, “Jesus began to preach, saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”
Pride will not allow that.
Pride will puff the person up and keep them from true repentance, which is what is needed.
We need to let go of our pride, think soberly about who we are Romans 12:3), and bring our thoughts in line with Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
