Be More Like Leia and Less Like Han

The rescue of Princess Leia from her detention cell did not go according to plan since there was no plan.

As a member of the Galactic Senate, Princess Leia learned to be strategic, to think first, and then act. She had been taught the importance of seeking counsel.

So as someone who is used to be in control, the Princess tells Han, “Look, I don’t know who you are or where you came from, but from now on, you do as I tell you. OK?”

Taken aback, Han retorts “Look! Your Worshipfulness! Let’s get one thing straight. I take orders from just one person. Me.”

Admonitions to Seek Counsel and Wisdom

While many come to love this scoundrel, Han’s arrogance and pride have gotten himself and those closest to him in trouble.

One would have hoped he would learn from his past and learn to listen to the counsel of others.

Are we like Han? Do we make our plans or do we seek counsel? It is essential to know who we allow to make our plans and give us orders.

We need to be willing to be open to the wisdom of others and to the founder of all wisdom, God Himself.

Scripture is full of admonitions to seek counsel and wisdom.

Proverbs 12:15 tells us that “the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.”

Proverbs 19:20 “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”
The ultimate guide for counsel and wisdom are told to us in Psalm 119:105 where we read “Your word [Scripture] is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

If you need your path lit up, look to Scripture.

As it has been said, B.I.B.L.E. means basic instructions before leaving earth.

Will we allow Scripture to be our guide, counsel, and source of wisdom?

Join with Me to Spread the Gospel

This post is a modified version of a devotional from my upcoming devotional book.

As millions of kids, teens, and young adults face a world that is rapidly removing any trace of Judeo-Christian values from the culture, there is still hope to reach them.

The Gospel is for all people and throughout all time.

You can help the next generation learn about the Gospel by using Star Wars.

There are valuable lessons that can be learned from Star Wars. My devotional book looks at the live-action Star Wars movies (Episodes I to IX, Rogue One, and Solo) and pull out different lessons and take-a-ways.

If you wish to join me in using Star Wars to share the faith, please consider purchasing the daily devotion I published in November 2019.
