He said I could get right by myself

On their trip to Eadu, Jyn and Bodhi talk about the message she received from her father, which shares the secret design flaw Galen built into the Death Star.

Bodhi tells her that “He[Galen] said I could get right by myself. He said I could make it right if I was brave enough and listened to what was in my heart. Do something about it.”

Bodhi thought he could get right, forgiven for all his past sins, by doing something.

In Bodhi’s case, that something was to get Galen’s message to Saw Gerrera. Its delivery was his part in stopping the Empire from using this new super-weapon.

Bodhi seems almost desperate to make up for the life he led up until that point. He wanted to “get right by myself.”

He is like many people we meet.

They reach a point when they realize they have not led a “good enough” life. Like Tekel in Daniel 5:27, “have been weighed in the balances and found wanting.”

People with this worldview will then try to do good in the hopes that they can tip the scales in their favor.

Romans 3:10b-11 tells us, “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God.”

But the good news is that “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).

We are saved by grace, not by works. All we need to do is put our trust and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ as Acts 4:12 tells us, “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
