He tricked me into going this way

After crashing their escape pod on Tatooine, R2D2 and C3PO discuss which way they should go. While R2D2 took the rockier and harder path, C3PO decided to go the easy way.

When events do not proceed according to his plan, C3PO whines, “That malfunctioning little twerp. This is all his fault! He tricked me into going this way, but he’ll do no better.”

People will complain about what happens to them even when Scripture says if you do certain things, these are the results to expect as a result.

People do not like to take responsibility for their thoughts, beliefs, and actions. We need to look no further than Genesis 3 and the interaction between Eve and the Serpent.

Beginning in 3:1b, we read the conversation between the two, “He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?’ And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

First, we see the Serpent’s attempt to mislead Eve since he mentioned not eating from “any” tree. Eve mistaking added to God’s word when she said, “neither shall you touch it.”

When God confronted Adam and Eve for their sin, Adam blamed Eve, who blamed the Serpent. This meant that 100% of humanity at the time was blaming someone or something for the bad situation they were in because of their sin.

Thankfully, 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, He [God] is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Why is God willing to forgive us?

Because of Romans 5:8 where Jesus fulfilled God’s promise made in Genesis 3:15.
