During their battle in Return of the Jedi, Luke tells Vader, “Your thoughts betray you, father. I feel the good in you. The conflict.”
To which Vader replies, “There is no conflict.”
While Vader may not have been aware of the struggle between the light and dark within himself, there is a struggle in life.
The conflict is often the Holy Spirit convicting us of sin in our lives (John 16:8).
Once we are believers, 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
God is sovereign.
Yet we know God has allowed Satan to roam the earth; see Job 1. The struggle we face is that we are not yet in heaven, and Satan’s influence still affects the world.
In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5(KJV), we read, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
We need to recognize that there is a conflict, but more importantly, we need to know from 2 Peter 1:3, “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to His own glory and excellence.”
When we feel a nudge or a sense of conflict, we should take a moment and pray, asking God to reveal what we should do.
