I had every chance to pull the trigger.

Besides being a captain, a spy, and a Rebel agent, Cassian is a cold-blooded murderer.

While talking with Tivik in the alleyway, two Storm Troopers investigate what they are doing. When one asks for their “scandocs,” Cassian appears to comply but does so only so he can stoop over and grab his blaster, which he then uses to shoot them dead.

When Tivik starts to worry that he cannot climb up, Cassian cooling shoots Tivik in the back so that he can escape.

In Exodus 2:11-12, we read how Moses “looked this way and that” before killing an Egyptian beating a Hebrew. The next day Moses approached two arguing Hebrews, and they asked in fear if he was going to kill one of them “as you killed the Egyptian” (verse 14).

Both Cassian and Moses fled the scene.

Like Moses, who would eventually repent and meet God, Cassian begins to change his ways.

When confronted by Jyn about why they went to Eadu and why he went up the ridge alone, Cassian snaps back, “I had every chance to pull the trigger. But did I? Did I?”

A few people have done heinous acts in their lifetime, like actually killing a person in rage like Moses or Cassian. But we all have become angry with someone (see Matthew 5:21-22).

When Moses encounters the LORD in Exodus 3, he is given information and a task that is beyond him. But he eventually goes back to Egypt and helps save the Hebrew nation.

Cassian also joins Jyn in her attempt to retrieve the Death Star plans to help save the galaxy’s people from the Empire.

Remember, for the believer, NOTHING can “separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).

I had every chance to pull the trigger. ~Cassian
