Needing a ship to do the Kessel Run, Qi'Ra brings Han, Chewie, and Tobias to where she knew Lando Calrissian would be. After seeing Lando playing sabacc, Han talks Qi'Ra into letting him play the game in hopes of winning Lando's ship.
Han says to Lando as the cards are being dealt, "I heard about you. I was wondering if it's true." Lando quickly but cooly replies, "Everything you've heard about me is true."
Interesting that Lando would be so naive. He has no idea what has been said about him. Maybe it was his arrogance that made him believe that people only referred to him in favorable terms.
The reputation of people does not always align with their status or character. Proverbs 22:1 tells us, "A good name [that is, your reputation] is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold."
Paul instructed Timothy about the qualifications for overseers/deacons/bishops in 1 Timothy 3:2-7, "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil."
These qualifications are suitable for the believer. Some of the qualifications are focused on a man (i.e., husband of but one wife), but the principle remains.
As believers, we should be above reproach.
What do we need to improve upon today?
Or what do we need to give up?
