I never doubted you for a second

In The Empire Strikes Back, as Leia, Chewie, and Lando are trying to escape from the stormtroopers that have overtaken Bespin, the door to the Millennium Falcon’s launch pad is locked.

When R2D2 successfully opens the door, C3PO exclaims, “I never doubted you for a second. Wonderful!”

Earlier, C3PO had told R2D2 to plug into what C3PO thought was a computer outlet but turned out to be a power outlet.

C3PO had doubted R2’s ability in the past, but he was OK with it after it worked out.

Are we like C3PO when it comes to God?

Do we doubt what He is doing? But when it is over, we look back and “approve” of what He did, and often we even claim that we never doubted Him.

In Matthew 14:22-33, we see Jesus walk on water and then call Peter to join Him on the water (verse 29).

We often give Peter grief for taking his eyes off of Jesus and sinking into the water (verse 30), yet we do not see any other disciples attempt to go out to Jesus.

They had just come from the other shore where Jesus had fed “about five thousand men, besides women and children” (Matthew 14:21b).

The disciples “took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over” (verse 20). These baskets of bread were at their feet, yet they did not believe Jesus was walking on water toward them.

Like C3PO, who doubted R2D2’s abilities, the disciples questioned Jesus’ ability to walk on water, even though they had just experienced a significant miracle.

How much do we truly trust God?

How much do we doubt Him?

I never doubted you for a second.
