After Rey finds Luke on the planet of Ahch-To, she tries to get Luke to teach her. Luke refuses.
She snaps back, “I’ve seen your daily routine. You are not busy.”
While it is true that Luke is not busy, he is avoiding doing what he has been called to be, a Jedi. He was not to be a hermit. He, like the Jedi before him, was to be involved in the galaxy.
Both Jedi and Christians have been called out from the rest of the population. The church, in Greek, called the “ekklesia”, is literally named “called out ones.”
We are called out of darkness into the light (1 Peter 2:9). We are also to be in the world but not of it (John 17:16).
While we are not to pursue the things of this world, Colossians 3:2, we are to be hard at work, Colossians 3:23.
Being lazy and slothful is not the Christian way.
As believers, we are part of the ekklesia, and as such, we are called out and, God, who has called us out, has also called us to do certain things with our lives.
We are to:
Love each other (John 13:35).
Help the needy (Matthew 25:34-40).
Give thanks and be joyful (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Pray (Matthew 6:9-13).
And share the Gospel (Matthew 28:19-20).
Remember that we are saved by grace but also created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:8-10).
