One of the most iconic scenes from Star Wars is the fuzzy blue hologram of Princess Leia saying “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”
This plea for help and the faith that Princess Leia showed would transform the entire galaxy.
That fragment of her message helped inspire Luke to eventually act on the call he had been feeling inside.
When we finally are able to list to the full message, we here a testimony of Leia’s faith.
General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.
Leia’s Declaration Showed 4 Points Of Faith
If any of these things fail to go her way, the Rebellion would be doomed. Even if all six are accomplished, there would still a lot of work to do.
- She had faith that her message would get out:
Her ship has fallen under attack (capture is imminent) - She placed her faith in a droid delivering the Death Star data :
She stored the stolen data in R2 - She had faith that Obi-Wan was still alive :
She was told by her father to get Obi-Wan - She has faith that Obi-Wan Kenobi can do something with the data that is delivered
The Key To Faith In Jesus Being Who He Claimed To Be
In 1 Corinthians 15:13-17, we read about the importance of the Resurrection as it relates to our faith as believers.
Paul tells us “But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.”
In verse 20 Paul tells us “But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
The early church had people that saw the risen Lord showed Himself to as 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 tells us:
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
Today we can have unflinching faith that Jesus is the Lord and we can proclaim in our time of need, “Help me, Jesus Christ, You’re my only hope.”
