Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not.

Anakin has been experiencing very unsettling dreams or Jedi premonitions of Padmé experiencing pain, suffering, and death in childbirth, so he has sought out counsel from Master Yoda.

Yoda reminds Anakin that “death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not.”

Death was not God’s original design. Death entered the world because of sin (Romans 5:12 and 1 Corinthians 15:21).

Death is now a part of life.

It is something that we will all face for ourselves unless the Lord returns first.

In the meantime, we will need to learn how to deal with the deaths of those around us.

When we deal with the death of someone, it is a very sensitive subject. Telling someone that they should not mourn is not the most helpful thing to do and is very insensitive since it hurts when someone dies. There is a loss, a hole left in our life.

Even Jesus mourned the death of His friend Lazarus (John 11).

The shortest verse in Scripture is John 11:35; “Jesus wept.”

Jesus wept for His friend, but He did not weep as the world did.

Christians need not mourn as the world does since those that are in Christ will rise upon Christ’s return (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

If a non-believer dies, it is truly sad and devastating. There is nothing we can do for them. Their eternity is set. In Matthew 25:31-46, we are told about the final judgment.

How can we, as believers, comfort those that mourn?
