As Han leads the small team on Endor to take down the second Death Star’s shield generator, Leia tells him, “The main entrance to the control bunker’s on the far side of that landing platform. This isn’t gonna be easy.”
Much of what they did in their fight against the Empire was not easy but was worth it.
We live in a world that makes what we are to do “not easy.”
What are we as believers to do? We are to share the good news of Jesus, share what He commanded, help people become learners of Jesus, and do this with the entire world.
This is a simple but not an easy task to do.
In fact, this is an impossible task to do by ourselves.
The good news is that we are not alone in doing this. While Han had a small team of commandos to help take down the shield generator, we have the Holy Spirit (John 14:16).
When Han and his team tried to take the bunker, initially, they failed. They tried to use fairly sensible military/smuggler tactics. It was not until they tried using Ewok tactics did they succeed.
The Ewoks tactics seemed foolish and misguided.
Lest we forget, 1 Corinthians 1:18-19 reminds us that “the word of the cross [the Gospel] is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’”
God is not calling us to do something easy.
He is calling us to do something that is worth it.
Jesus died for all (John 3:16), and we “will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon [us], and [we] will be [Jesus’] witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth,”(Act 1:8).
