In Rogue One, when Director Krennic and his Death Troopers arrived at Galen Erso’s homestead, Galen sets in motion plans to have his wife and daughter escape.
His wife, Lyra, stops along the escape route to make sure that he daughter, Jyn, knows where to go. She gives Jyn her necklace, and her last words to her daughter are “Trust the Force.”
When Lyra is killed trying to stop Krennic, and Galen is forced into working on the Death Star, Jyn is left to be raised by Saw.
Jyn was raised as a soldier by Saw. That is what she knew.
Her life was one of resistance and crime. Her list of offenses included possession of unsanctioned weapons, forgery of Imperial documents, aggravated assault, escape from custody, resisting arrest, and a host of other illegal acts.
She was trained by Saw and her environment to look out for herself and no one else.
We may or may not have been brought up in a home where good was taught or where we were loved as children.
We can take comfort in what 2 Corinthians 6:18 tells us, “and I will be a Father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to Me, says the Lord Almighty.”
When we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, John 1:12-13 tells us “all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
We become a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:6) and can be changed.
We need to trust in Jesus so that He can renew us and free us to become who we were truly designed to be.
Trust Him today.
