For those of us that have a snarky sense of humor and a quick wit, K2SO was a welcomed addition to the cast of Rogue One.
He was not one to sugar coat what he said.
When Cassian asks Jyn if she has met K-2, Jyn’s response dripped with sarcasm as she replied, “Charming.”
Cassian replies that “He [K-2] tends to say whatever comes into his circuits. It’s a byproduct of the reprogram.”
When K-2 was created and programmed, he had the operating system that the Imperials installed.
Most of K-2’s pre-Rebellion actions and decisions were rather benign, even though he was unknowingly helping to further the interests of the Imperials. When he was put into a situation when he would have to pick a side, his actions and decisions were made to help the Imperials.
Our Need For A Reprogrammed Mind
We, like K-2, have a program that we are following, consciously or not. We follow what the world would have us do.
We are in need of a program update as Romans 12:2 tells us.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
We need to change how we think and act. We need to become more like Christ. But it is more than just our thoughts and actions.
We need to become a new creation.
We can if we are in Christ, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
When Christ died, He died to sin once for all; but because of the Resurrection, the life He lives, He lives to God (Romans 6:10).
To get this God-given upgrade, we need to do the following three things.
- Admit we have sinned. Romans 3:23 tells us that “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
- Believe in Jesus Christ. John 3:16 instructs us that “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him [Jesus Christ] should not perish but have eternal life.
- Confess Christ publicly. Romans 10:9-10 informs us “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
Being Like K2SO
While we should avoid being sarcastic and speak whatever comes to mind, we do need to be like K2S0 in at least one aspect.
There was nothing that he could do to his programming. The change in his programming came from outside of him, from a professional programmer.
We can not reprogram or transform our minds on our own. We need to rely on the One who is the perfect programmer. God created us and knows us better than we can ever know ourselves.
O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways.
~Psalm 139:1-3
We need to trust God to give us a new mind. We then can, and should, fill it with what Paul told us in Philippians 4:8; “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
