As TROS begins, Kylo Ren encounters the resurrected Emperor. Palpatine explains how he was the one manipulating everything in Kylo’s life. Palpatine claims to have made Snoke and to have been every voice inside Kylo’s head.
Kylo asks Palpatine, “What could you give me?” In a cryptic and determined voice, Palpatine answers, “Everything.”
To rule the galaxy and take command of the Final Order fleet, there is but one condition. Kylo must kill Rey.
In Matthew 4:1-10, we read about the temptation of Jesus by Satan. In verses 8 and 9, we read the third temptation. “Again, the devil took Him [Jesus] to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these I will give You, if You will fall down and worship me.’”
While Kylo Ren is in no way close to being a Christ-like character, he does represent a fallen and sinful man who is tempted with power and evil desires.
Jesus was, is, and always be perfect. He is the Son of God, per John 3:16, 1 John 5:20, Luke 1:35, and many others.
Jesus understands what it means to be tested, yet He was without sin. Hebrews 4:15 tells us, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.”
We, too, are provided a way to be sinless when we are tempted.
Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
We need to rely on the Holy Spirit to show us the way out and to be in constant communication with God as we are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “pray without ceasing.”
If we do that, we can endure temptation and honor God.
