As Kylo Ren confronts Lor San Tekka at the beginning of TFA, Kylo threatens him by saying, “I will show you the Dark side.”
Lor San Tekka replies, “You may try, but you cannot deny the truth that is your family.” Kylo Ren proceeds to kill Lor with his lightsaber.
Lor San Tekka referred to Kylo’s Solo-Skywalker family. We, as believers, need to remember the truth about our family, our heavenly family.
Once we become believers, our family is now the family of God.
We now have brothers and sisters all around the world. We can enjoy the benefits of being adopted children of God. We have a shared inheritance with Jesus.
In the Gospel of John, 1:12-13 tells us, “all who did receive Him [Jesus], who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son [Jesus], born of woman [Mary], born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because [we] are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So [we] are no longer slave[s], but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God,” Galatians 4:4-7.
Paul is using the Roman law of adoption of sons, which meant that you had the right to the name and the citizenship of the person who adopted you and the right to inherit his property.
Since God adopted us, what does that mean for our name? Our citizenship? Are rights of inheritance?
