In TFA, during the middle of their duel, Kylo Ren tells Rey, “You need a teacher! I can show you the ways of the Force!”
This was probably not the best time to tell someone that you could teach them- while you are trying to kill them.
Rey was in need of a teacher, a person that could train her properly in the ways of the Force. She needed a Jedi.
When it comes to our spiritual growth, we are also in need of a teacher/mentor, especially when we are new believers. We will have lots of questions and will not know where to find the answers that we need.
A spiritual mentor can help show us how to read Scripture and how to look for the answers to our questions.
We need to be mindful who we learn under since many cults appear to believe in the Bible and Jesus Christ, but they deny fundamental beliefs of Christianity.
Regardless of who we learn under, we need to test what they say against what Scripture says. There are many false teachers in the world.
Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 that we are to “test everything; hold fast what is good.”
How will we know what is good and true? We see in 1 John 4:2, “By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.”
John asks in 1 John 2:22, “Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.”
Our ultimate mentor and teacher is the Holy Spirit, which Jesus promised in John 14:16-17, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.”
