In ESB, when he is training with Yoda, Luke asks how someone can tell the good side of the Force from the bad.
Yoda offers this simple wisdom, "You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive."
Yoda wanted Luke to let go of the worries and commotion of life.
What do we do after we seek God and find Him? We have a conversation.
Probably the most known story of God speaking to someone in a still, small voice is in 1 Kings 19.
Elijah fled to the wilderness to escape Jezebel, who in 1 Kings 19:2 we read “Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ‘So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.'”
While seeking to hear God, we read in 1 Kings 19:12, "And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper (a still small voice- KJV)."
The setting for this is in the wilderness, away from people. After all this uproar, God speaks with Elijah in the silence.
Jesus often went into the wilderness to commune with God, as seen in Matthew 14:22-23 and Mark 1:35.
He even instructed His disciples to talk with God in private. "But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret," Matthew 6:6.
While there are plenty of reasons why Jesus did these things and told His disciples to do them, one of them is so that there would be fewer distractions.
Our minds can only handle so much information at a given time. When we quiet ourselves and our surroundings, we can hear better from God.
What questions do we want God to answer?
Could they be answered by asking others for godly counsel?
What would happen if we were calm and at peace with God?
