Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin.

During the beginning of Attack of the Clones, while guarding Padmé, Anakin comments to Obi-Wan that he would prefer to dream of Padmé and how being around her is “intoxicating.”

To which Obi-Wan warns Anakin, “Be mindful of your thoughts, Anakin. They betray you.”

We also need to be mindful of our thoughts.

In 2 Corinthians 10:5, the King James version translates the verse that we should be “casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

We see how Anakin is being pulled away from the life he says he is committed to. His sleep is being disturbed by thoughts of his mother being in pain. He would prefer to dream of a lovely young woman. The nightmares and desired dreams distract him from his commitment to be a Jedi.

What are the things that pull us away from our commitments?

The easy ones for most people to admit to are not staying committed to a new eating or exercise plan.

A more challenging area of commitment for some is to admit trouble in their walk with God. Are we inconsistent in reading Scripture? In prayer?

There are other areas where we continue to sin in various ways- both sins of commission and sins of omission.

Commit to making our thoughts dwell on God and serving Him.

We need to put God first in our lives and no other.

Jesus needs to be our Savior AND Lord, not just our Savior. (See Deuteronomy 6:5).

When we fall, we must ask for forgiveness and get back up just as 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
