When Obi-Wan encounters Anakin on Mustafar, Obi-Wan hopes to turn Anakin back to the light side of the Force.
Obi-Wan replies to Anakin speech, “Only a Sith Lord deals in absolutes.”
This is an illogical statement.
Obi-wan just made an absolute statement, yet he is no Sith.
Was Yoda a Sith when he told Luke to “Do or do not, there is no try”?
Believers in Christ need not fear making absolute statements. It may be politically incorrect in today’s world to do so, but Scripture is very black-and-white on many issues.
In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Jesus’ statement is about as absolute as one can get. Jesus claims the ONLY way to God the Father is through Him. There are no back doors into the kingdom.
We are told in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
In Deuteronomy 6:4, we see the absolute statement, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”
We read in Isaiah 44:6, “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: ‘I am the first and I am the last; besides Me there is no god.'”
Jesus declared, ” ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am,” equating Himself with God.
“In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.” While this last quote is not in Scripture, it is good advice to live by.
Where Scripture is clear, we should be as well.
Where Scripture is silent, so should we.
