Community Is Key

Are you all alone? Do you think that you can get more done by yourself?

You can’t.

There is an old proverb that tells us “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

It’s true. That’s why I have this blog, a Facebook page, and recently joined Jeff Going’s Intentional Blogging Challenge.

Community Is Key

The Jedi knew this to be true. They created a Jedi academy where they started to teach the younglings the ways of the Force.

They wanted to teach these newbies how to hone their skills. That’s what good communities do.

We are told in Hebrews 10:24-25(ESV) “let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”(Emphasis added)

We all need encouragement from time to time.

As an introvert, I prefer to be by myself. Alone time refreshes me. Too much alone time is unhealthy. I need to connect with people so I force myself to go out into group settings.

When I do venture out, I am energized by the camaraderie, but too much can actually zap me of my strength.

What Kind Of Community

Community is defined as “a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.”

anh-community

The friendship that develops between Luke, Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and the droids (C3PO and R2D2) would be considered a community. As would all those that were part of the Rebellion.

What kind of community will you become a part of?

In today’s day and age, we can join all sorts of communities. You can join online groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social platforms. You can also join paid online communities like Tribe Writers, Platform University, Flipped Lifestyle, etc.

There also is still the offline world. The real world.

We all have groups that we can be a part of; work, church, neighborhood, sport teams, etc. If you want to start a small group in your home, you can do that as well.

Find the communities that fit you.

I suggest a combination of online and offline.

Christian Star Wars Fans Unite

As a disciple of Jesus and a huge Star Wars fan, I gravitate towards people with those shared interests.

I can usually tell if a person is “my kind” of Star Wars fan based on how the answer this question; “Who shot first?”

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you probably are not as big of a Star Wars fan as I am. We all know that Han short first.

When Lucas changed the scene to show Greedo shooting Han first, I cringed. Those that remember the original scene are those Star Wars fans that I best relate with.

When it comes to faith in Jesus, I am less concerned about the denominational background you are, but more concerned with who you say Jesus is.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Light. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus.

We can still be friends if you deny these truths about Jesus, I just won’t call you a brother or sister in Christ.
