How To Deal With Pain

Having just finished recalibrating the Jedi signal warning surviving Jedi to avoid the Temple, Obi-Wan stops to view to security recordings to in order to know how the younglings died.

Yoda warns him that “If into the security recordings you go, only pain will you find.”

Obi-Wan watches the security videos and sees what Anakin has done and indeed found pain.

Time’s passage might have dulled the pain but nothing could take the pain away completely. Even 19 years later when Obi-Wan is talking to Luke about his father, there is a sense of pain in how Obi-Wan recounts how Luke’s father was “a good friend.”

When we experience a loss, it often will hurt for a long time. Time cannot heal all wounds.

There is good news for the believer. We can meditate on, listen to, and savor the comfort promised by the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-5).

Just like Joshua who was commanded to meditate on God’s Word in Joshua 1:8, “you shall meditate on it day and night”, we should spend time in God’s Word.

When we are in God’s Word, we will be able to calm ourselves and listen to God’s word, we will find passages like Lamentations 3:22 that “because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail”.

The Psalms are full of ways to savor God’s Word. When we are suffering one example of savoring God’s Word and promise found in Psalm 119:50 “This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.”

Our lives may never be the same again after a huge loss, but God’s promises bring hope and comfort.

Join with Me to Spread the Gospel

This post is a modified version of a devotional from my upcoming devotional book.

As millions of kids, teens, and young adults face a world that is rapidly removing any trace of Judeo-Christian values from the culture, there is still hope to reach them.

The Gospel is for all people and throughout all time.

You can help the next generation learn about the Gospel by using Star Wars.

There are valuable lessons that can be learned from Star Wars. My devotional book looks at the live-action Star Wars movies (Episodes I to IX, Rogue One, and Solo) and pull out different lessons and take-a-ways.

If you wish to join me in using Star Wars to share the faith, please consider purchasing the daily devotion I am published in November 2019.
