So this is how liberty dies.

After the attempted arrest of Chancellor Palpatine and the execution of Order 66, Palpatine announced to the Senate that the Republic would be realigned into the first galactic empire.

Padmé laments and comments to Bail Organa, "So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause."

The crowd cheered when Jesus stood before Pilate, as we read in Matthew 27:21-23. "The governor (Pilate) again said to them, 'Which of the two do you want me to release for you?' And they said, 'Barabbas.' Pilate said to them, 'Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?' They all said, 'Let Him be crucified!' And he said, 'Why? What evil has He done?' But they shouted all the more, 'Let Him be crucified!'"

Just as those in the Galactic Senate cheered the demise of the Republic and those in front of Pilate cheered for Jesus to be crucified, we see people today unwittingly cheer and march for their own destruction.

As believers, we need to remember that we should not follow the crowd but should follow Christ.

In John 8:12, we read that "Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'"

We also read in Galatians 5:24-25, "those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit."

When we follow Jesus and live by the Holy Spirit, we will seek after what is truly good for us, and God will give it to us.

In Luke 11:11,13b, Jesus taught, "What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent… how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"
