In ESB, Luke’s X-wing has sunk into the swamp, and only the tip of it shows above the surface.
Disheartened, Luke complains, “We’ll never get it out now.”
Without missing a beat, Yoda stamps his foot in irritation and rebukes Luke, saying, “So certain, are you? Always with you, it cannot be done. Hear you nothing that I say?”
When people hear that only perfect people can enter into Heaven, they, like Luke, either become disheartened or deny it.
However, in Luke 18:26-27, we read, “Those who heard it said [how it is difficult for the wealthy to enter Heaven- verse 24-25], “Then who can be saved?” But He [Jesus] said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
No one can earn or buy their way into Heaven. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes that clear when Paul states, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
People need not whine like Luke about the impossibility of getting “out of hell” and into Heaven.
Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection paid the price for the sins of the world.
We, as believers, need to be like John the Baptist, who, when he saw Jesus in John 1:29a, said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
When we see people trying to “earn” their way into Heaven, we can share how it is impossible to do, but there is a way that a person can get into Heaven.
Jesus told us in John 14:6 that He “is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through” Him.
