You’re in this life for good

In the stand-alone Solo: A Star Wars Story movie, we see the revised back story of Han Solo, the most lovable scoundrel from that galaxy far, far away.

During his life, we see how Han was not the best at making sound and moral decisions.

After his 3-year stint with the Imperial Army, we are introduced to Tobias Beckett, the man who would become Han’s mentor.

Tobias, like so many in Han’s life, lacked good morals.

After failing to steal 100 kilos of refined coaxium for the crime syndicate Crimson Dawn, Tobias tells Han that he will go to Dryden Vos and find a way to make it up to Crimson Dawn.

Since no one knows about Han, he will be kept safe. If Vos does kill anyone for this failure, it will be Tobias.

Han does not like that deal and offers to go with Tobias and fix things.

At first, Tobias tells Han “no” but then goes on to tell Han and Chewie, “If you come with me, and show your face if they don’t kill you, you’re in this life for good.”

Han had no idea what he was getting himself into when he agreed to join Tobias on the coaxium heist, and then when he volunteered to go with Tobias to negotiate with Dryden Cos.

People in life think they can run away from the consequences of their bad decisions, as Chewie first suggested.

If that does not work, they think they can talk their way out of the results of their failures, like Han and Tobias.

The problem is that there comes a time when the consequences are so significant that nothing humanly can be done to get out from underneath them.

This Applies to Life in Our Galaxy

Hebrews 9:27 tells us when that time is, “it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”

Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

For those that are in Christ Jesus, we do not need to worry about the Judgment. We are like the one called “blessed” in Psalm 32:1-2, where we read, “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.”

We must stop trying to outrun our sins and bad choices because we can’t.

We need to rely on God’s love for us as we read in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

And we read in Romans 5:8 that “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Our response needs to be as simple as Romans 10:9-10. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” as we read in Romans 10:13.
