That just wouldn’t be proper

In ROTJ, the Ewoks have captured Han, Luke, Chewie, C3PO, and R2. Using his vast linguistic abilities, C3PO explains to the group that the Ewoks believe him to be some sort of god.

Wanting to use that to their advantage, Han wants C3PO to use his divine influence to get them out of the predicament.

C3PO remarks back, β€œI beg your pardon, General Solo, but that just wouldn’t be proper,” and further explains that β€œIt’s against my programming to impersonate a deity.”

One reason why our world is so messed up is that humanity does not have an accurate view of themselves.

We need to be who God created us to be, with the talents and abilities, He gave us. We should be the best we can possibly be, and as Ephesians 2:10 tells us, β€œwe are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Yet, humanity believes themselves to be above all things and capable of doing whatever we put our minds to.

We think we can solve the problems of our society on our own.

We try and solve poverty, fight terrorism, claiming to be both the cause and cure for changes in the climate, etc.

We have made ourselves gods.

C3P0 knew that he should not claim to be something he was not. We should take a page out of his book.

We are not God.

We are the pinnacle of creation (see Genesis 1:27), be we are not the Creator.

The sooner we realize that and ask forgiveness for our arrogance, the better things will get.
