The beginning of Rogue showed that Jyn Erso’s life was filled with tragedy. Later we hear that her life also included a multitude of crimes such as “possession of unsanctioned weapons, forgery of Imperial documents, aggravated assault, escape from custody, resisting arrest.”
Jyn tells Saw Gerrera that the Alliance, the Rebels, has brought her nothing but pain. She decided that she could live with “Imperial flag reign[ing] across the galaxy.”
Just like Jyn, there are many people in the world with a long list of things they have done that they are not proud of, actions they thought they needed to do to survive.
Jyn did not care if the Imperials ruled the galaxy as long as she kept her head down. Many come to a point when they are so beaten down; they cannot imagine it getting any worse for them. They keep their head down and survive without hope.
When people try on their own to fight back against the evil of this world, they often fail and give up hope. There is no hope of overcoming the world and the evil that exists in it; on our own.
The only way we can live a life that is free and full of hope is to live in Christ Jesus. Jesus, Himself told us, “take heart; I have overcome the world.” He has done so. We can, as well, that is if we live in Him.
Hebrews 10:23 reminds us to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He [Jesus] who promised is faithful.”
Romans 8:37-39 assures that “in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
When we feel alone and without hope, remember that God is always with us.
