You will know. When you are calm, at peace.

While Luke was on Dagobah training with Yoda and learning about the Force, he asked Yoda, “But how am I to know the good side from the bad?”

Yoda’s replied, “You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack.”

We need to remember that the Force is not the Holy Spirit, but there is some truth to the need for us to remain calm, be at peace, and to be passive or still.

Psalm 46:10a reminds us that we should “Be still, and know that I am God.”

This reinforces what happened to Elijah in 1 Kings 19:11-13 when the LORD revealed Himself to Elijah in a still small voice after Elijah had become relaxed and at peace.

Paul promises in Philippians 4:7 that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Leading up to this were verses 4-6, which tell us to “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”

When we are calm, at peace, and still, we are in a better situation to learn from God through the Holy Spirit.

We often see that Jesus left the crowds and disciples to go off by Himself to pray. This is an excellent example for us.

If Jesus went to a place so that He could be calm, at peace, and still, should we be any different?

The obvious answer is “no”.

What can we do today to have some quiet time with God so that we can know what He is saying to us?
