December 12th: This Will Be A Day Long Remembered

Saturday, December 12, 2020 will be a day, long remembered.

This is the day “The Christian Jedi: A Daily Devotional*” with devotions from all 11 live-action movies was released on Amazon.

Limits And Focus Of This Devotional

As we have seen, there is a whole host of Star Wars material from which to draw.

The Expanded Universe (before Disney threw it out by renaming it Legends) had hundreds of books that we could look at– from the Thrawn Trilogy that rebooted the books in the 1990s to the graphic novels that looked at Luke’s turn to the dark side — this devotional book will be limited to the eleven live-action movies only.

There currently are no plans to include The Mandalorian or the animated series (The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, or Resistance). Time will tell if these series and the live-action series announced in December 2020 by Disney will be used in future versions of Bible studies or devotions.

While an occasional reference might be made to material outside of the eleven live-action movies, those references will be made to support or clarify what the movies have to say.

There are phrases and quotes from Star Wars that can be used almost every day. Even if they are not a direct quote, the essence of what the person is saying can be connected to a quote or scene from the movies.

It is usually easier to connect with someone through a shared experience.

As mentioned before, most Americans are familiar with the Star Wars movies. They do not necessarily know much about the Church or the Bible.

Remember that in using shared stories, we are better able to connect with people and share concepts with them, that they might not otherwise understand or relate to.

What This Devotional Book Is And Is Not

This is not a study on pantheism or any other myths and/or religions. We will look at the story, scenes, and quotes from the movie. In that context, we might briefly mention the influences Lucas may have had.

This is not a book that will address all the ways Star Wars can be used in conversations to steer the conversation towards sharing the Gospel.
