Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed.

Darth Vader’s proclamation on the Death Star that the admirals should not “be too proud of this technological terror [they’ve] constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force” seems strange.

The power necessary to destroy a planet is immense.

To destroy a planet that the same size as earth, scientists at Ohio State have figured that the energy needed would be more than “2 x 10^32 Joules, or about 12 days of the Sun’s total energy output!”

Written out in non-scientific notation, it would be 2 followed by 32 zeros; 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules.

That is a lot of power!

How is it that the power to “destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force?” Within the Star Wars universe, we are told by Obi-Wan that the Force “binds the galaxy together.”

We are told in Scripture that Jesus holds the universe together in Colossians 1:17, “And He [Jesus] is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together.”

While the Force is impressive, God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit are more impressive.

Since the universe was spoken into existence by God and is held together by Jesus, we should not be afraid to ask for God’s help in our lives.

He has the power to help us. There is nothing too big or too small to go to God in prayer for.

Remember, Jesus told us in Matthew 10:29-31, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed.
