One of the most iconic scenes from Star Wars is the fuzzy blue hologram of Princess Leia saying, “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”

The entire message is:
General Kenobi. Years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to convey my father’s request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I’m afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2D2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.”
What Are Princess Leia’s Problems?
Princess Leia has at least six problems.
- Her ship has fallen under attack (capture is imminent)
- She has to get the stolen data to Obi-Wan Kenobi
- She hopes Obi-Wan is still alive
- She hopes R2D2 does what she has told him to do
- She hopes Obi-Wan can do something about it
- She hopes she lives.
The Rebellion is doomed if any of these things fail to go her way. Even if all six happen, there is still much work to do.
In 1 Corinthians 15:13-17, we read about the importance of the Resurrection. Without it, we cannot have hope. If Jesus Christ is still dead, there is no hope of being reconciled to God.
In verse 20, Paul says, “But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
Today is the day to proclaim, “Help me, Jesus Christ. You’re my only hope.”
