“Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”
These are the words Qui-Gon told Anakin, in The Phantom Menace, after the Council declared that Anakin was not to be trained.
While Qui-Gon is not allowed to train Anakin, he wants Anakin “to watch me and be mindful. Always remember, your focus determines your reality. Stay close to me, and you’ll be safe.”
If we fill our heads with good things, we store up good. If we dwell on bad, evil, or immoral things, we store up bad.
In Luke 6:45, Jesus tells us that “the good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
What we put into our heads goes to our hearts. Earl Nightingale was spot on, saying, “We become what we think about.”
What would have happened if, instead of focusing on the worldly, the temporal, or the ungodly, we started to focus on what Paul urged us to focus on in Philippians 4:8 when he said, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Look at what is true (John 14:6).
Look at what is honorable (Hebrews 13:4 and 1 Peter 2:17).
Look at what is just (Micah 6:8).
Look at what is pure (1 Corinthians 6:18).
Look at what is lovely (Luke 6:31).
Look at what is commendable (Romans 12:2).
What are the things that we can start thinking about today?
