Don’t underestimate the power of the Force

Vader has just finished walking through the hallways of the Death Star when he stops and looks around.

Moments later, he is in the conference room informing Grand Moff Tarkin that Obi-Wan is aboard, but Tarkin is skeptical.

Vader explains that he felt “a tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master.” Tarkin believes that Obi-Wan to be dead by now but Vader, replies, “Don’t underestimate the power of the Force.”

How was it that Vader could sense Obi-Wan? It was because of their connection with the Force.

The Force enables Jedi (and Sith)to have premonitions or visions. The closer to the Force a Jedi or Sith was, the more power they were through the Force.

While the Force is a pantheistic belief system and completely incompatible with a theistic belief system such as Christianity, there is a an illustration that can be made.

Joel 2:28-29 records that the LORD will pour of His Spirit. “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I [the LORD] will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out My Spirit.”

God also provides the ability to understand and interpret dreams like Joseph in Genesis 41 and Daniel in Daniel 2.

God gave those gifts not for those men to receive honor and praise, but so that He could.

Matthew 5:16 tells us, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

So what God-given gifts and abilities do we have? How can we use them today for His glory?
