In AOTC, the opening scene shows the attempted assassination of Senator Amidala. When inside the Chancellor’s office, Padmé speculates that Count Dooku was behind the attempt on her life.
Mace Windu replies to her, somewhat indignantly, “You know, milady, Count Dooku was once a Jedi. He couldn’t assassinate anyone. It’s not in his character.”
Mace believes that just because Dooku was once a Jedi, he, nor any Jedi, can do bad things.
Some people today are shocked that even Christians can do dumb or bad things.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17, we read, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
That verse has caused heartache for many believers who believe it to mean that we will no longer sin since we are a new creation, and since they still sin, they doubt their salvation.
Just because we are new does not mean we are perfect.
Philippians 2:12b tells us that we are to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
We are in the process of becoming more like Christ.
In 1 John 5:18, we read, “We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning.” It does not say believers do not sin.
That would contradict what John said two verses before in verse 16, where he said, “If anyone sees his brother committing a sin.” The brother he is talking about is a fellow believer.
Believers will walk in the light, and, according to 1 John 1:8–10, we see that walking in the light is not the same as being sinless.
