Never tell me the odds!

In The Empire Strikes Back, immediately after Han orders Chewie to head into the asteroid field, C-3PO exclaims, “Sir! The possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!”

Han dismisses C-3PO, yelling, “Never tell me the odds!”

There is a fine line between stepping out in faith and doing something foolhardy. When we know it is of God, we must act regardless of the odds of succeeding or failing.

But how do we know something is of God?

We could be audacious like Gideon and ask for a sign as he did in Judges 6:36-40. “Gideon said to God, ‘If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised, look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.’ And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowlful of water. Then Gideon said to God, ‘Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request. Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.’ That night God did so. Only the fleece was dry; all the ground was covered with dew.”

We must remember Ephesians 2:10, which says, “we are His [God’s] workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

The works we are to do have been prepared by God. These works will bring honor to God and lift Him up.

If the works we are about to do will not honor God, they are not from Him.

We might not test God as Gideon did, but we can have a conversation with God, also known as prayer.
