Han finds himself in a prison cell, in Return of the Jedi , after his rescue from being frozen in Carbonite.
He asks Chewbacca what is going on. The Wookie replies to him to explain how Luke has planned to rescue Han.
Han responds with, “Luke? Luke’s crazy. He can’t even take care of himself, much less rescue anybody.”
Chewbacca then tells Han that Luke is now a Jedi Knight. Han cannot believe it and comments, “I’m out of it for a little while; everybody gets delusions of grandeur.”
We often look down on those who are young or childlike. We need to be careful about discounting people who are younger than us. We do not want to be like the disciples in Luke 18:15, who tried to keep children away from the busy Jesus.
Jesus rebuked the disciples and then, in Luke 18:15, said, “Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Jesus is not telling us to be easily fooled (as children sometimes are) but to be like a child who comes to Him sincerely and without pride. Like a child, we should demonstrate trust and be willing to be open and direct.
In his letter to Timothy, Paul tells him in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
Why did Paul have to tell Timothy these things? Probably because people were looking down on him because of his youth.
Anyone, regardless of age, can be an example to other believers.
These examples may not always be good ones. If we are to be a positive example in speech, what does that look like?
What does it mean to be an example with our conduct?
In love?
In faith?
In purity?
If we were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict us?
